The decade also saw the introduction of 2000GT, Hiace and Miniace which had good reception from the audience. The domestic sales and cumulative exports of Toyota touched 1 million in the 60s. During 1970s the Japanese brand introduced successful models in US. The vehicle lineup includes Carina, Light Ace and Publica Starlet, Corona and Mk II. These models were super hit and Corolla still gained popularity. Another huge hit Celica sports coupe was also introduced during this period. Even during 70s oil crisis, Toyota was able to manage its sales of compact fuel efficient cars and by the end of the decade it reported an export of 10 million vehicles. The next decade saw the introduction of popular SUV, 4Runner and sports car, MR2 as a process of expanding US product lineup. The 80s also saw the huge hit of Toyota Camry sedan which won the best-selling car of the year award. This model was known as Celica Camry in Japan. During 1990s Toyota rolled out Avalon, a full-size sedan and compact RAV4, a SUV. Toyota, pioneer in introducing technologies were the first to introduce world's first hybrid vehicle in mass production. Introduced in 1997 in Japan, the hybrid stepped into US in 2001. Named Prius, the vehicle leads this market segment despite heavy competition. Right now the brand has earned reputation for its consumer-friendly vehicles which vary from cars, trucks, SUV and minivans.
