Suzuki is a Japanese brand which is known for its affordable vehicles with good value for money. Suzuki's line of vehicles include sedan, SUVs and wagons. Michio Suzuki started the company named Suzuki Loom Works in 1909. With steady growth, the company expanded its products apart from loom machines and by the year 1950 it had grown to the level of manufacturing motorcycles and automobiles. The first vehicle unveiled by the company was a compact car in 1955 and this proved to be a forerunner of lightweight vehicles in Japan. In the span of six years, Suzuki introduced its first lightweight truck Carry in 1961. The same decade saw Suzuki's increase in product lineup and towards the end of 60s, it had Fronte 800, a subcompact car, Fronte, a passenger car and a full-cab van named Carry Van. 70s was also a successful decade as it had Suzuki introduce 4WD sport utility vehicle named Jimny and subcompact vehicles named Alto and LJ80. The new SUV had similarities with Jeep CJ-5.1980s saw partnerships and re-badging of vehicles. General Motors acquired 5% stake of Suzuki and with this partnership, Suzuki's subcompact vehicles were re-badged under the name of GM and became popular in US. In 1985 Suzuki launched its plant in US and unveiled its first model named Samurai under its own name Suzuki. The compact sport utility vehicle was available in two models one as a convertible and other as a hardtop. The vehicle was a grand success but it had to fight legally against a report published in Consumer Reports in 1988. Even after winning the case, Suzuki could not increase the market scope for Samurai and by the end of the decade it launched compact vehicle Swift and compact SUV named sidekick. During 90s Suzuki introduced Esteem. It also replaced Samurai with X-90 and Sidekick with Vitara and Grand Vitara. In 2004 GM and Suzuki purchased Daewoo and re-badged its vehicle in the name of Suzuki Forenza and Suzuki Verona.
