Saturn which is a division of General Motors has cars, SUVs and minivans in its product line. The brand
was created by GM to offer budgeted buyers low priced cars. The story behind the creation of the brand is very simple. On losing the market to Japanese import vehicles, GM introduced Saturn in 1990 and rolled out small and affordable cars. The brand satisfied the expectations of customers with their compact cars and customer-service. The first car to be unveiled is the S-series which were made available as sedans, coupes and wagons. Saturn vehicles were unique as it had different platforms and used unique plastic panels to reduce denting. The engines
were powerful and available in 85-124 horsepower which made the models super hits in the market. These cost-efficient cars were also fuel-efficient
and offered 40 miles per gallon while using manual transmission. After seeing a successful launch, the brand did not show any remodeling and only during the introduction phase
did the brand see high sales for its customer service and "no-haggle" pricing. After that, customers sought new platforms
and designs but Saturn failed to provide them. With limited models the brand was not able to withstand the market. Then with the decrease in sales figures, GM expanded the product line in 2000. Saturn models included
the L-series, which shared the platform with Opel Vectra, and this sedan uplifted the sales. GM
then introduced a SUV named the Vue and a minivan named Relay which attracted a lot of customers for Saturn's affordability and performance. GM also replaced
the S-series with Ion which were made available as
both a sedan and coupe. In the process of further expansion, GM introduced a hybrid variety named Saturn Vue
Green Line. With all new models Saturn was able to regain its lost market,
however this boost wasn't enough as GM finally discontinued the Saturn brand in
2009.
