The Italian Maserati car is known for its stylish and sporty performance. Originally the manufacturer of race cars, Maserati ventured into street legal vehicles later. Started by Alfieri Maserati in 1914 by six brothers, the company
has become well known for its impressive vehicles. Until 1930, the cars manufactured by Maserati
were best sellers and in the year 1937 the company was sold to the Orsi family.
The Tipo 60 and Tipo 61 were topping the race during the post war period. The first road car launched by the automaker was
the A6 coupe during 1947-1957. In the 1960s the company rolled out its sleek and stylish Mistral Coupe and Sebring. With
a truly powerful V8 engine, Maserati launched its Giugiaro-styled Ghibli, an alluring sports car. In 1968, the company Citroën purchased Maserati. Again in the year 1975, the brand was in liquidation and
came under the control of Alejandro de Tomaso who introduced a new model Quattroporte III, a four-door luxury sedan. In
the 1980s Maserati stopped its vehicles to the US as the Biturbo model was a failure. To recover from this situation, Fiat bought Maserati in the year 1993. When the company was closed for its structural change, the company's 50% share was issued to Ferrari. With this new management, Maserati was able to stand up in the market.
The Spyder roadster model was a booster to the brand as it had a V8 engine and gearboxes similar to the cars in F1. In 2002 the brand was introduced again in the US market and in 2005 the company came under the full control of Fiat. Then, the brand had introduced
the voluptuous GranTurismo. Today, the brand may lack popularity but is known for its affordable stylish performance cars.
