Scion A/C Expansion Device
The air conditioning system has become one of the common systems in the Scion vehicles. The major components of the air conditioning system include a compressor, condenser, evaporator, accumulator, drier and so on. Among these, one of the important components which helps in controlling the cooling effects inside the passenger cabin is the Scion AC expansion device. The Scion AC expansion device helps to vary the flow of refrigerant based on the cooling requirement. The Scion AC expansion device is a metering device which regulates the flow of the refrigerant as per the cooling requirement. When you require more cooling effect, the valve opens more than the normal opening to allow more flow of refrigerant to the evaporator. This happens in reverse when the cooling effect has to be controlled. When the cooling effect is reduced, the opening of the valve contracts, reducing the flow of refrigerant.
The working of Scion AC expansion device is that simple which requires the effort of the evaporator, bulb and the spring. The pressure is controlled at these three points. The AC expansion device is connected to the sensor bulb to monitor the cooling effect. If the bulb pressure is increased, it opens the valve and more refrigerant flows. In either way, it reduces the refrigerant flow. When your Scion AC expansion device is not functioning properly, you can feel the difference in the cooling effect of your AC system. That is the right time to look for either repair or replacement of AC expansion device. In case of replacing the factory-fitted parts, you be careful in not loosing the original performance.
