When the AC is switched on, the thermostatic effect with the two shafts allows the current flow leading the AC to work. When the AC is turned off, the clutch shafts disconnect stopping the current flow. The operation of the engine and the AC separately is possible only with the AC. So damage in AC clutch must be repaired at the earliest.
