Working and Functions of Ford Alternator
The working of Ford alternator is similar to the working of DC generator. In a Ford car, alternator generates alternating current to run various devices within the car. It is a kind of generator that converts mechanical energy from the engine motor into electrical energy. A car without an alternator makes driving merely impossible, an alternator is essential to power up the devices inside the car.
The functions of Ford alternator uses magnetic field around the conductor and the way of magnetizing varies as some uses linear and rotating magnetic field. So how does electricity produces in conductor using magnetic field? The electricity is produced in the conductor, when the rotating magnet cuts the flow of magnetic field in the conductor. So from this step alternating current is produced from the conductor using magnetic field. As we know the purpose of Ford alternator is to generate electricity to give life to electrical devices inside the car. But how about working of those electrical devices when car stop moving? To overcome such situations, the alternating current generated from the alternator is stored in a battery, to supply electricity even when the car is idle. Earlier we relied on commutators to generate electricity. Commutators is a electric switch that is most commonly used in electric motors or electrical generators. The main disadvantage of commutator is quite expensive than alternator.
A capacity of Ford alternator depends upon the amount of electricity need for the vehicle and so it is build according to the necessity of electricity by the electrical devices.
