The compressor is considered as the heart of the air conditioning system. The AC compressor is a mechanical pump that is driven by a belt attached to the vehicle s engine. Like the human heart, the AC compressor pumps the refrigerant in a closed loop system throughout the car AC system. Among the major parts that every car AC system is made up of, the AC compressor, condenser, evaporator are very important in its functions.

The compressor has got a main work of circulating the refrigerant gas to the entire system. The compressor pumps the freon through a tube, into a condenser, where it is cooled. When it is cooled, it turns into a liquid, where it passes through an evaporator that cools the surrounding air. It pumps the refrigerant between evaporator and the condenser. It pressurizes and circulates the refrigerant in the air conditioning system. The compressor and condenser are usually located on the outside air portion of the air conditioner. Compressors come in many different types, but the two common is the centrifugal compressor and the scroll compressor. The Cadillac XLR A/C compressor can be connected or disconnected with the compressor belt to the engine when it is running. It will operate only if the belt is attached to the engine.
