Alternator is an electromagnetic device which converts mechanical energy to electrical energy in the form of alternating current. It can also be known as a part of charging system which supplies electricity to devices located inside the car. The name alternator is due to the type of electricity which it creates. The working of Cadillac SRX alternator is similar to the working of DC generator. Cadillac alternator is generally a charging system which stores the alternating current in a battery and supply the current to various devices in a car. Alternator is also known as generator which converts mechanical energy to electrical energy to supply varies devices that run the car.

The alternator is capable of producing more steady current, even when the car is idle. Cadillac SRX alternator works by using belts that are connected to the pulley system, so called rotor. At this point it moves the magnets across conductor and these moving magnets generates the electrostatic field, which is known as electricity. In other words electricity is produced in the conductor when the rotating magnets cut the flow of electric field around the conductor. The current coming out from the alternator is controlled by voltage regulator to maintain a steady voltage. Finally the diodes convert the alternating current to direct current to be stored in the battery.
