The compressor should have only liquid as its input, but the evaporator output is a liquid refrigerant. Feeding the compressor with a discrete refrigerant for every cycle is not practically possible. So to recycle the same refrigerant in the air conditioning systems process again and again, the liquid refrigerant from the evaporator must be converted to completely gaseous refrigerant. The BMW M3 A/C accumulator/ drier is used for this purpose in between the compressor and the evaporator. The BMW M3 A/C accumulator/ drier has two parts in it. The first part is the accumulator and the other is the drier. The liquid refrigerant from the evaporator is filtered in the accumulator and the rest of the refrigerant is given to the drier. The refrigerant now undergoes drying process in the drier which acts as a blower.
When the refrigerant flows out from the BMW M3 A/C accumulator/ drier to the compressor, it is completely gaseous. If in case any of the parts in the BMW M3 A/C accumulator/ drier is not in pace, there will be leakage of the liquid or the moisture mixed refrigerant to the compressor.
