The purpose of the AMC Gremlin A/C clutch is to aid the synchronous performance of the engine and the AC system. The AMC Gremlin A/C clutch is made up of a coil of wire which is nothing but an electromagnetic device. The AMC Gremlin A/C clutch consists of two shafts which are rotatory. In the AMC Gremlin A/C clutch, out of the two shafts one is connected to the engine system and the other is connected to the AC motor. The connection is made with the help of a belt and a pulley.
Initially, the engine system is isolated from the AC system. This lets the engine to perform individually with only the shaft connected to it rotating. When the AC system is switched on, there is a magnetic field generated in both the shafts with the help of the electromagnet. This magnetic field clutches both the shafts together, inducing a friction that leads the AC system to function. If the AC system is switched off, the magnetic field between the two shafts breaks up. This results in the separation of the AC system from the engine system allowing it to perform unique.
The connection to the AC system from the engine is possible only with the help of the AMC Gremlin A/C clutch. If the AMC Gremlin A/C clutch is worn, the function of the AC system is not possible.
